Our Cellar Door PDF Print E-mail

Our Cellar DoorJo and Kevin took over the winery in October 2004. Since then the vineyard and surrounding area has had a face-lift. A new car park has been put in, along with some very attractive native garden beds. As the garden grows and becomes established it will be a pleasure to visit.

All visitors to cellar door are welcome to look around the gardens and the vineyard. During your visit to cellar door, you are encouraged to ask questions, be it about the vineyard or the winemaking side of things. Tours around the winery are available, with all aspects of winemaking discussed.

The cellar door experience is a very personal one, with all attention focused on you the customer.

Find us near the Milawa Cheese Factory

You can find us on the Oxley Flats Road from Wangaratta, or just off the Snow Road, only 200m from the Milawa Cheese Factory.

Our Wine Making PDF Print E-mail

The table Merlot is made on site in the winery. The Sparkling merlot base wine is made in the winery, and then transferred to Kilchurn Wines in Romsey to be converted to sparkling wine.

Merlot for table and sparkle is hand picked by locals, mostly on a volunteer basis. It normally takes about 4 hours to pick each of the 2 blocks (about 1 acre each), and any one is welcome to come and help. Harvest normally happens in mid to late March, depending on fruit ripeness and flavours.

The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed, before transfer to stainless steel tanks for open fermentation. Ferments are hand plunged and pumped over.  After fermentation, the skins are pressed in a basket press, and the wine transferred to a clean tank. The skins and stalks are used for cattle feed , which is a bonus as March and April are the times when cattle feed can be scarce.

A mixture of new and old, and French and American oak is used to mature the wine for 12 months. The whole gentle winemaking process along with minimal filtration allows us to retain as much of the good flavours and aromas as possible.

Can I order wine from outside Australia? PDF Print E-mail
Unfortunately the answer is no. Every country has its own liquor laws (often varying from state to state), plus there are many different laws for Customs etc. As a result, we will currently ship only to Australian addresses.
